This is a longer explanation of prolotherapy and provides more detail on the mechanisms of
prolotherapy. It explains the relationship between joint sprains/strains, joint laxity, and
subsequent joint pain. It then gives more detail on the use of prolotherapy to stimulate growth
factors and restore joint function.

Study of Prolotherapy for Knee Osteoarthritis, Alternative Therapies, March 2000.

This is  a placebo controlled study using prolotherapy in 38 patients with confirmed damage to
the knee structure from osteoarthritis. The study evaluated changes in joint pain, swelling, and
buckling episodes at 3, 6, and 12 months of prolotherapy treatment. The study concluded
"
Prolotherapy injection with 10% dextrose resulted in clinically and statistically significant
improvements in knee osteoarthritis.
